“Fine” A COVID Poem
I saw a friend today
They asked me
How are you doing
Inside I weep
I am drowning
Sorrow overcomes
And I understand
Work is not done
So much to do
No lifesaver in sight
Pain overwhelms
I ache all over
My soul wrenches
I want to save a life
My eagerness sears
My core is a nurse
Why can’t I save
A life lost echos
So much information
It fogs my brain
Memories muddled
Simple tasks challenged
I yearn for numbness
I see darkness
I see bright light
I see colors
I see, I see, I see
Hope
Feeling moments
Passing like the wind
I respond, Fine
We part ways
Smile gently
Socially distanced
Give Grace!
