Making Lotion
When we moved to Colorado, we encountered continued issues in finding a lotion that worked for my son. His eczema just flared up with a number of other allergy and autoimmune issues. We worked at controlling what we could. That is the most we all can do to support ourselves and control our own surroundings and our fate.
My belief is that if something less adulterated and in the pantry, there is a large likelihood we can put it on our bodies. This lotion my kids also licked :) (before the essential oils) and said it tasted okay. ~I am not encouraging consumption.
I found a recipe on Pintrest but I had to alter to what worked better for us. This is the end result so far. FYI, I do continue to make alterations each time I make it so make sure you do what you can to make it work for your lifestyle. We continue to make lotion as the eczema has been long gone. Also it is more cost effective.
Ingredients:
1 cup Coconut Oil
1 cup Cocoa Butter
1 1/4 Shea Butter
1 cup mixed oils (olive *mostly, grapeseed, avocado, almond, apricot, jojoba, etc)
Essential Oils- best to use pure
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a double boiler or use a metal bowl sitting on a pot of boiling water.
Boil until all melted together and then remove from heat.
Place in the refrigerator. Usually takes 2 hours to cool.
Once solid remove from fridge and allow to come to room temp.
Use hand mixer to blend into a nice frothy consistency.
Wipe out glass container with white vinegar on a towel or paper towel. Allow dry time.
Transfer butter mix to glass container and add desired essential oils (do not mix oils in metal bowl as it alters the integrity of the oils).
Total time for me is several hours (most time is cooling or temp adjusting).
Please contact me or comment if you have issues.
Also, contact me if you have any questions about oils. I utilize pure Young Living Oils.
