Next Generation
Does this sound familiar? “I want to move up but I have had experiences with nurses from that unit and they are not kind…..” Oh my goodness. There is a certain level if shame we need to have each time we hear this as nurses.
What is the concern with raising the next generation? The greatest virtue people possess is that no two people share the same experiences. Even if we are in the same place our perspective on the experience is completely different. Beautiful.
One fascinating aspect is that some nurses and healthcare workers tend to hate the inexperienced. In the medical society existing today, nurses and other staff have to learn to do more with less. This expectation creates undue tension in the workplace. Adding someone who doesn’t know their way around or has to ask frequent questions may cause unexpected pressures. Also many experienced nurses have the baseline knowledge imbedded in their work and it is harder to break down details.
While work as a nurse can be cumbersome at times, the idea that we all started somewhere must be maintained. Support for one will build the unit as a whole. Even the military can account for this in the no man left behind slogan. We fight for the right of better quality care for the success of patients.
There is a campaign called “Nurses Support Their Young.” Join the movement for change. Join the movement in support of where every nurse starts… As a baby nurse. Support in love and we can build a stronger community of competent and unstoppable nurses.
