Historically essential
Understanding where we are today always requires a good understanding of where we’ve come from. Essential oils have been around so long its hard to say where they really took hold for use.
It is well known that oils were used during ancient Egyptian times. Some oils were to embalm and other oils were used to ensure sweet encouraging aromas. It is so lovely that the dead smell just as good as the living (Ha!). The Dark times brought Christian reform and the church said it was sinful to bathe. Thus, the use of flowers increased as well as oils as an aid in covering up the funk. Luckily, the church laxed its understanding of bathing and what was socially acceptable. Now we bathe with the sweetest aromas.
So many uses of oils have been increasingly understood. Over time we have studied multiple properties of plants and their oil components. We have grown to understand how much our different senses involve us in the aromatic/essential oil experience.
Increasing research has shown how much we all associate smells with certain experiences. Utilizing oils can aid in eliciting positive and healing feelings. There is also increasing research on how much utilizing oils are proven effective against certain diseases and conditions.
Essential Oils are utilized in multiple ways:
Antibiotic, anti-fungal, anti-emetic (vomiting), anti-inflammatory, sedative, clarifier, elevation of senses, refresher, home purification, hormone balancer… the list is endless. It is beautiful.
I will continue to discuss oils and what benefits you can see. Also we will discuss application or recipes that I utilize to have success with oils. Success is deeper rooted understanding of the oil you are using and how the property of the oil touches your deeper being.
