Genesis 1:29

And God said, “behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”

My wonderful aunt is always so supportive. She shows so much love there are times I do not feel it has been properly earned. The other day, she brought over some Oregano for me to use. I’m always open to trying new things to stay healthy and balanced.

In this COVID battle, we search for traditional and nontraditional ways to maintain our health. In this, I have earned a renewed respect for Oregano.

Here’s the skinny:

Scientific name: Origanum vulgare

It has been used for centuries by Greeks for its many healing and life supporting properties.

It is part of the Mint family, so it is already encouraging.

It is a proven anti-fungal. Use of capsules is often times preferred as it can pass the stomach and into the gut to dissolve in the gut.

It is used to treat digestion ailments. It reduces gas in the gut.

It is an antimicrobial. Studies show use can fight E. Coli, Klebsiella Pneum., Salmonella Enterica, and Staph. Aureus (the MRSA bug).

Dried Oregano is a mixture of blessings. It contains many key balancing joys within the plant including carvacrol, thymol, borneol, rosmarinic acid, triterpenoids, sterols, vitamin A, vitamin C, and many more!

Needless to say, I now use it like a religion. It’s sweet aroma is inspirational in itself. Everywhere I go people have asked what the smell is and for what reason would I wear it. I love it. Smells sweet and balancing.

If the time has come to use this delightful herb, herb are a couple of ways to dive in.

Steeping tea can be lovely. You can use fresh or dried. Just a couple of tsp will be steeped in a cup of hot water.

Oregano oil can be utilized topically. Oil should be diluted at least 50% before use. Apply 2 times daily. Acne, athletes foot, psoriasis, rosacea, warts are a few treated ailments.

Oregano can be steamed to aid in respiratory ailments (including sinuses).

Enteric tablets can also be utilized. This will allow safe passage through the stomach to the intestines.

As always, it is always delicious to just eat oregano on a regular basis for balance in food.

As always, discuss with your MD before taking. Concern remains around it’s use during pregnancy or if you have a bleeding disorder. Oregano can increase the risk of bleeding. It may also decrease blood sugar, so use with care. Certain drug interactions my also need to be followed or discussed with your pharmacist or doctor.

Give Grace.
